SCSB technology services for Business Central financial reporting

SCSB helps Malaysian organisations configure Dynamics 365 Business Central and Microsoft Power BI to produce more consistent, better-controlled management and financial reports. SCSB provides technology implementation services: it configures the systems, workflows and dashboards that support the reporting process. It does not perform statutory audit, prepare audited financial statements, or hold accounting-practice credentials, and the service does not replace the organisation's own accountants, tax advisers or auditors.

The objective is a reporting environment where source data, postings, reconciliations and report layouts are structured consistently, so that the organisation's finance team and its external accountants or auditors can rely on the underlying records. Configuration supports the reporting process; it does not by itself establish compliance with MFRS, MPERS or any other financial reporting standard.

What this service can support

  • Chart of accounts, dimensions, posting groups and period structures aligned to the organisation's approved reporting framework.
  • Standard and consolidated management report layouts within Dynamics 365 Business Central and Power BI. Microsoft documents how financial reports are built from financial data and account categories; SCSB configures those capabilities against a reporting structure the organisation has approved.
  • Reconciliation workflows between subledgers, bank data and the general ledger.
  • Recurring journal templates, allocation rules and accrual workflows configured to the organisation's own accounting policies.
  • SST-related transaction mapping and reporting extracts for review by the organisation's tax function.
  • MyInvois-related data preparation and reconciliation between Business Central records and submission status.
  • Role-based Power BI dashboards for management review, cash flow monitoring and departmental reporting.
  • Audit-trail and change-history configuration to support the organisation's own audit and review processes.

SCSB configures these capabilities based on the reporting framework, chart of accounts and policies approved by the organisation's own finance leadership and, where applicable, its external accountants or auditors. SCSB does not set accounting policy or determine MFRS or MPERS treatment; those decisions rest with the organisation and its qualified advisers.

Malaysian financial reporting context

MFRS and MPERS alignment

Malaysian Financial Reporting Standards and the Malaysian Private Entities Reporting Standard, as issued by the Malaysian Accounting Standards Board, set the recognition, measurement and disclosure requirements that apply to an organisation's financial statements. SCSB can configure Business Central's chart of accounts, dimensions and report layouts to reflect a reporting structure agreed with the organisation's accountants or auditors, but classification and disclosure judgements remain the responsibility of those qualified professionals. Microsoft's guidance on working with dimensions describes the mechanism; a dimension applied inconsistently produces detail that cannot be relied upon, so permitted values and posting controls should be agreed before use.

SST and LHDN-related reporting

Business Central can be configured to map sales and service tax categories, post SST-related transactions and produce reporting extracts for RMCD-related filings. Rates, exemptions, registration positions and return treatment are the organisation's responsibility and should be confirmed against current RMCD guidance and the organisation's own tax advisers before submission.

MyInvois-related data preparation

Where relevant, SCSB can help prepare Business Central data for MyInvois workflows and reconcile submission outcomes back to the general ledger. Applicability, implementation timing and document treatment depend on current HASiL guidance and the organisation's facts, and should be confirmed with its tax adviser before production use.

Implementation method

Discovery and reporting-requirements review

SCSB reviews the organisation's current reporting process, chart of accounts, consolidation structure, reporting calendar, pain points and the standards framework confirmed by its accountants or auditors. The output distinguishes mandatory requirements, desirable improvements and decisions requiring approval from the organisation's finance leadership.

Report and workflow design

Report layouts, reconciliation workflows and Power BI dashboards are designed against the organisation's approved reporting framework and existing controls, rather than a generic template.

Configuration and data validation

Configuration covers chart of accounts, dimensions, posting groups, recurring journals, allocation rules and report definitions. Historical data validation identifies opening balances, reconciling items and data-quality issues that need resolution before go-live.

Testing and review with finance stakeholders

Test reporting cycles are reviewed jointly with the organisation's finance team and, where engaged, its external accountants or auditors, comparing report output against expected results and the agreed reporting framework.

Go-live, handover and ongoing support

Go-live planning covers the first live reporting cycle, escalation paths for exceptions, and a defined stabilisation period. Ongoing support can cover report refinements, additional dashboards and configuration changes as the organisation's reporting needs evolve.

Reporting outputs and Power BI

SCSB can help define role-based financial and management reports using Business Central data and Power BI, including profit and loss views, balance sheet summaries, cash flow monitoring and departmental or project-level reporting. Each report definition should record its data source, calculation logic, refresh frequency, access permissions and accountable owner, so that management and the organisation's accountants understand what each measure represents. The time required to close a reporting period and the resulting audit or review timeline depend on data quality, transaction volume, staff availability and the complexity of the organisation's structure, and will vary between organisations.

Governance and controls

  • Define roles and permissions for posting, approval and reporting access according to approved responsibilities.
  • Maintain segregation of duties between transaction entry, approval and reconciliation where required.
  • Record and review changes to chart of accounts, report definitions and Power BI data models.
  • Retain reconciliation evidence and supporting documentation for the organisation's own review and audit processes.
  • Align data retention and access controls with the organisation's PDPA-related obligations and legal advice.

These controls support a more consistent reporting process, but they do not replace the organisation's own financial control environment, internal review procedures or the professional judgement of its accountants and auditors.

Scope, timeline and commercial terms

Delivery timing and fees depend on the confirmed entities, chart-of-accounts complexity, data quality, number of reports and dashboards, integrations and the availability of the organisation's finance team and advisers for review. A responsible proposal identifies assumptions, exclusions, client responsibilities, acceptance criteria and change-control arrangements.

Contact SCSB for the current proposal, pricing and terms. Any delivery date, service level, demonstration, trial, refund or support commitment is governed by the signed proposal and agreement.

Why work with SCSB

Where the underlying system is not yet in place, this service follows a Business Central implementation. Where e-Invoice submission is in scope, it is handled by the SAC E-Invoice App. SCSB brings Business Central configuration, reconciliation-workflow design, Power BI reporting and structured testing into one delivery process for Malaysian organisations seeking more consistent financial reporting. SCSB leads the technology implementation work within the agreed scope; the organisation's own accountants, tax advisers and auditors remain responsible for accounting judgement, tax positions and audit opinions.

Discuss your financial reporting requirements

Request a consultation to review your current reporting process, chart of accounts and Power BI readiness. The first discussion should establish scope, the reporting framework confirmed by your accountants or auditors, data condition and the evidence required for acceptance.
